Attorney Scott Scherr is a trial lawyer who is passionate about helping clients get the money they need and deserve. He represents clients in personal injury matters, complex business, and employment matters. Don’t “settle” for just any lawyer – there are a ton of lawyers out there who do the minimum amount of work possible just to settle your claims as quickly as they can, even if the settlement is not necessarily in your best interest. Those lawyers do not get you the amount of money you deserve – you are just another case they want to get off their desk so they can move on to the next one. Many of them are simply afraid to go to trial or to put in the effort to maximize the money you will get. This literally robs you of dollars that should be paid to you. We will give your case the attention it deserves and gets you the most money we can, even if it means more work and taking your case all the way to trial.
What Scott Enjoys About Practicing Law
I am a trial lawyer. While many attorneys practice in the litigation of cases involving personal injury or business disputes, there are significantly fewer attorneys that will actually go to trial for their clients or even have trial experience. I love to represent my clients in trial, I love the strategy involved in preparing a case for trial, and I love to win for you – to get you the money you deserve. I am the personal injury and wrongful death attorney you need when you want to win against the big insurance companies.
I have more than 30 years’ experience in both federal and state courts representing plaintiffs and defendants in all types of personal injury litigation, complex business disputes, and employment matters. I am a board-certified attorney, and I also have extensive experience in mediation, arbitration, and resolution of claims.
My personal injury experience includes:
- Automobile accidents
- Boating accidents
- Trucking accidents
- Catastrophic injury cases
- Hazing incidents
- Oilfield accidents
- Products Liability
- Professional malpractice
- Wrongful death
- And more
Representing both individuals and businesses, I have handled complex business disputes such as breach of contract, construction law, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, corporate/partnership disputes, oil and gas issues, and Deceptive Trade Practice Act claims. I also work on employment-related issues such as discrimination claims, policy and procedure manuals, and employment contract issues.
I graduated from Texas A&M University and later attended South Texas College of Law. At Texas A&M, I was in the Corp of Cadets and Parson’s Mounted Cavalry. While in law school, I served as Associate Editor of the South Texas Law Review, was inducted into the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity, and received a Distinguished Service Award from the South Texas Law Review. After graduating from law school, I started my career at a large Dallas law firm, Godwin & Carlton. Later, I moved to Brazos County to work at what is now Payne, Malechek, Scherr, Campbell & Moore, P.C. I was a member of the South Texas College of Law ATLA Varsity Mock Trial Team.
During my legal career, I have been a member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the Brazos County Bar Association, the Houston Bar Association, the Dallas County Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers (Co-Chair Judiciary Committee, 1997-1999), the Texas Aggie Bar Association, the Brazos Valley Human Resource Management Association, the Society for Human Resource Management Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. I am also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a selective group dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the civil jury trial right provided by the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
I wrote an article titled “A Remote Manufacturer May Be Held Grossly Negligent As A Matter of Law In Spite Of Any Warnings To An Intermediary Not In The Direct Chain of Distribution,” which was published in the South Texas Law Review.
I am currently admitted to practice in:
- All Texas State Courts
- The United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas
- The United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas

- The United States District Court for the Western District of Texas

Scott's Personal Story
I’m the father of four children. My daughter Stephanie graduated from Texas State University and is working in Houston, son Travis graduated from Texas A&M and served as a Captain in the U.S. Army and is now working in the Denver, Colorado area, daughters Avery and Bailey graduated from Texas A&M and are both working in the Houston area.
When not at work, I love being outside, whether to water or snow ski, spend time on the beach, paddleboard, surf, hike, or even work in the yard—as long as it’s outside. I have served on my Church Council and the Church School Board. I have close ties throughout Texas, including the Brazos Valley.
